"Some relationships evolve; change over time. Some stay the same; but the friends you lose seem to stay with you the longest. There is always a feeling of regret, like an ink stain on your hand that you can't scrub off. What scares me most lingers below the surface of any relationship: nothing is guaranteed for always. It scares me that someday those people won't be there. Even beneath the company of new friends there's the lingering feeling that something's missing, even if you don't let anyone see it but yourself"

"My advice? In the loss of a friend, casually hate them. If you should, like I have on occasions, wake up at 4am, feeling emotional for what you used to have, just remind yourself that either they 'don't exist' or 'don't deserve to,' because that's the only way it makes it easier to stop thinking about them. Despite my apparent bravery, I can't honestly say that loathing always works so in reality my advice can only be this: Don't make the same mistakes I have. Don't ever let someone close slip away from you, because your head will be filled with nostalgia for the foreseeable future, and living your life longing for the past is not a happy way to live. "

How true.
