A few nights ago, I had a horribly grotesque dream. i was in a big shop, it might have been a supermarket, or perhaps a bookshop, when i saw, tucked in the corner of the room, a small set of steps leadin down to brightly lit basement. The light was coming from a pattern of well-stoked fires in tradional-style fire-places around the room. These fires were what were heating the shop (which was nice and cosy and warm). Next to each one was a simple bed, in which lay a huge, obese, seriously facially deformed person. I found out that these people were deemed too hideously disfigured and obese to be seen by normal society. As a result, there was no hope of them getting a normal job, and the only employment they could have was lying by these fires, guarding them. They were payed, literally, in penuts. But they had to give a portion of them back each month as rent.

On reflection, I can see that certain elements of the dream (the penuts, the preoccupation with heat) are the result of just normal things I had done that day. But still; what an utterly bizzare, scary way for my subconcious to arrange it.
