the official 'oxford advanced learners dictionary' definition...
kitsch
noun:
art, decorative objects or design considered by many people to be ugly, lacking in style, or false but enjoyed by other people, often because they are funny:
His home's full of 1950's kitsch.
kitschy adjective:
a kitschy gilt-framed mirror.
i.e: Betty Boop, leopard skin washing-up gloves, and Elvis toothbrushes.

Sofie course i know what Kitsch is...
I mean it's one of those words when you know what it means - you just can't explain it.
Like Quaint.
Try explaining Quaint to a bunch of 10 year olds...i had to the other day, only we were sitting in the school library so i had the incredibly clever idea to hide myself under a pile of books to shield myself from their accusing stares.
Then i thought it would be a much better idea to find a dictionary, and then tell them.
xx
Wait.....
'Kitschy' is that something is....hmmm....errr....like.....hrrrmmm....you know when.....oh.......now, here starts the sad music and the dragging feet away for the poor person who still doesn't have a clue.
Like those panto characters wavered off the stage and the gullable audience go 'Awwwwww' because it's stand up tradition.
Anyway......asked around....apparently to everyone here....kitschy is something that is novel and 'naf'.
Is that right or have I been 'barking up the wrong tree' like the incredibly insane 'bitch' that I am?
